Though she's quiet around anyone that isn't a close friend, Raina is all about extremes. She is practical almost to the extent of absurdity. She doesn't waste resources, she plays nice with everyone (unless they give her a reason not to) solely for networking purposes, and she doesn't show a broad range of emotions unless she gets carried away. She compartmentalizes like crazy, and refuses to even attempt to discover the truth behind her parents' deaths. She knows they were murdered, but not (for sure) by who or why they were assassinated.
She adores her magic almost to the extent that she is practical. She cannot—or rather, finds it almost painful—to imagine life without her magic. Though she's never participated in a circle, wherein people are sacrificed to increase the circle-caster's magic, but the thought is always in the back of her head. She doesn't know if she would ever take the life of someone truly innocent of all crimes simply because she craves more power, but she knows she's capable of it.
Raina's superiors know they can trust her to get a job done, and be as objective about it as a brick wall. That is not to say, however, that she will accept all her jobs mechanically and not employ any reasoning. She has refused a small handful of assignments simply because she didn't believe that the end result would not have been beneficial enough to justify the means. She has values, left over, she believes, from her days of living with her parents, but they are weak and since landing in the Duskoff's care as a child she's learned that looking out for number one is, really, the wisest way to go. No one else was going to help her triumph, and she didn't want to become a child in a woman's body with no hope of becoming great. She learned to push herself to her limits, and then to extend those limits out even farther. She has few qualms about getting dirty or blood; even though she's never had the opportunity to partake in a ceremony that would increase her power, she just might accept if she ever got the chance. Her ambition is ferocious, and it what keeps her alive and kicking.
She's prideful in a way that makes her look humble. No one will catch her saying something arrogant about her abilities, but she takes a huge sense of pride in her accomplishments. She seems quiet in a way that belies the cacophony in her head. She's introverted in a way that leaves her with almost no close friends, and very few that aren't even that.

Everyone knows how prized air witches are, and no one knows better than Duskoff how hard it is to find one that can be molded into a loyal fighter. More than once Raina has wished she was a fire, or water witch. Fire witches, she reasons, can heal, and some water witches can manipulate the water in human bodies. That, she thinks, would be a skill worth knowing. And if she had not been born to two air witches, they would not have had to die when she was so young. No one should have to be escorted out of the classroom on their first day of sixth grade by Duskoff warlocks and informed that the Coven had assassinated both of one's parents.
Raina never fully believed this lie; her parents worked with the Coven on more than one occasion and followed all their laws. Why would the Coven want to rid themselves of such useful assets? She was told that her parents had affiliated themselves with Duskoff, but even as Raina rose each challenge she was put to in order to become a better Duskoff agent, she did not accept it. It was not that she could not believe her parents would betray all the values they readily and easily spoke of—she just simply did not believe.
She, on the other hand, became a superb student, both in school and in the training yard. She did spend a few months short of a year mourning her parents and old life and refusing to obey anyone remotely affiliated with Duskoff. After that period, though, a certain Mr. Ramsey went to have a little chat with her. Neither ever told anyone what he said to her, but after that point she began to apply herself to her studies. Whenever a small niggling feeling began to whisper that she was a traitor to her parents' memories, she silenced it and carried on. Her parents were dead, and it didn't matter who killed them. She wasn't strong or powerful enough to avenge them, anyway.
Since first beginning her training at Duskoff, she's learned how to manipulate her powers like a true expert. She knows how to infiltrate warded places and gather intelligence, and use her powers offensively and defensively. Ever so slowly over the years, Raina learned and grew and mastered her powers until she'd grown strong enough to defeat all her peers, and more than a few others. She tries not to dwell on how disappointed her parents would be. All her accomplishments are a result of her greed and ambition. She wants to be powerful, and she wants to be remembered as great. It's caused her to step on a few toes and take a few lives over the years. If she could be offered a chance at redemption... she just might take it, even though her position at Duskoff has put her on the fast track to greatness.

By the time Raina exited the training room, she was sweaty, breathing heavily, and utterly ignoring the small gash on her shoulder. It was only just beginning to clot, but she continued to ignore it. It wasn't deep enough to cause any kind of real harm, except, perhaps, to her poor, abused workout shirt. Over the years it had grown just as ratty as all her other workout shirts, and blood was so difficult to wash out of cotton. She held out the hem and inspected it. Except for the bloody sleeve, it wasn't so bad off. Perhaps she'd simply cut the sleeves off.
She passed by a window to the outside and glanced at it out of habit, catching only a glimpse of her own reflection before focusing on lights of Chicago. She like Chicago just fine. Sometimes, though, the homesickness for sunny San Diego would hit her without warning, and she'd go on Craig's List and look at apartment prices in her hometown and entertain herself with fantasies of going back to the West coast. Surely she could continue to do her job just fine from there, couldn't she?
She never brought it up, though. Looking at apartment prices and fantasizing about going back were just that: fantasies with absolutely no basis for serious consideration. She was more productive while in close proximity to the Duskoff headquarters, and it wasn't like she was unhappy in Chicago. She probably wouldn't be any happier in San Diego. The pull of her hometown was a result of a minute desire for a regular life. A minute one. She was just fine where she was. Hundreds of others would kill to be in her position, and she refused to let herself forget it.
Raina stopped in the middle of the hallway. The harsh white lights glistened and threw reflections off the linoleum like it was wet. There was no one else around to witness, so she could indulge herself a little. She turned around, hesitant despite knowing no one else was around, and went back to stand at the window and stare at the darkness between all the sparkling lights.
One day, she would have to move on. She didn't know how she knew that, but she intuitively knew that this job, this life she'd adopted, was nothing more than the job a waitress takes and the crappy apartment she signs a short-term lease on until she can figure out what she wants to do and how to do it. Maybe Raina had signed a long-term lease without meaning to, but she wasn't going to work for Duskoff until a Coven member offed her, or until she grew old enough to be sacrificed to some demon Stefen or his successor was trying to raise. She would get out, and she would follow her bliss.
